Matthai Capital Management has been managing portfolios for over 30 years. We understand the difference between investment theory and strategy. We believe investment portfolios should start with a sound philosophy and include a proven investment process.

Our philosophy focuses on two distinct principles:

  • A time for Wealth Accumulation
  • A time for Wealth Preservation
A time for wealth preservation simply means protection of principal is on the front burner. The defense is on the field to use a sports analogy. As Steven Womack from FPA Capital Management has stated, “Cash is a by-product of what we do. If we don’t see something that meets our risk-reward profile, assets end up in cash in our portfolios. This allows us the flexibility of preserving capital during times of stress.”

A time for wealth accumulation means the offense is on the field. It means that the investment landscape is once again attractive; however the key is where this attractiveness occurs. Is it the equity markets, fixed income markets, commodities, etc.? Our investment process allows us to definitively select the best areas of the market.
